Literacy Links
(New sites added 10/22/2006)
www.lexile.com
Find books and analyze text to meet the
needs of your students. This is a very
useful tool that helps teachers match
appropriate reading materials to the
student's reading level.
ReadWriteThink.net
My favorite of the sites added from the
Dyslexia conference... this one contains
hundres of engaging lesson plans, all of
which are aligned to curriculum
standards. The site also offers a number
of online tools, resources and graphic
organizers to help with differentiated
instruction.
Using Poetry to Teach Reading to Special
Education Students
This website features four Language Arts
lessons for a level range of about 3rd to
5th Grade. Check out the Word Lists in
the lessons; it's very interesting how the
teacher builds multi-syllabic words from
smaller, more common ones.
Elementary Journalism
Don't be fooled by the title. This website
contains useful tools that can be used all
the way up to high school aged students.
Next six weeks, our class will be
launching out online class newsletter.
The Online Writer is definitely a tool I
plan to utilize.
TheSchoolBell.com
Dolch lists, a record-keeping system,
practice booklets and more!
Breaking News English
Over 700 interactive lesson plans focused
on current happenings around the
world. Includes pre-listening, listening,
group discussion and synthesis activities.
Saved in Microsoft word and PDF formats.
Even includes homework.
Get Ready To Read
Free online for reading practice.
www.mightybook.com
Free books, music and games to
reinforce reading.
www.starfall.com
Online books for lower level readers. Is
interactive and printable!
libweb.lib.buffalo.edu/ft/ebooks.html
Free online e-books. You can search
hundreds of authors and titles.
Classics for Young People
Classics that are out of copyright and
available online in html format. (Some of
the links turn up as errors... but most
are in tact.)
The Internet Public Library
Online catalog of books. But these aren't
free like the ones on libweb.
www.bookcrossing.com
Set your books free! You and your class
could 'release' a book into the wild, and
then track it online to find out how
many times it changes hands. Could be a
neat class project on how books can
affect people around the world.
